No matter what I do, I get audio sync problems on VCD playback. I use TMPGENC to encode from avi to mpg, then VCDEasy and then burn with CDRWIN at 4X (that's the fastest my burner will go). I constantly get audio sync problems during playback. Who's got the master answer? I've been doing this for a year and still can't seem to get it right.

  3. Not sure what you've already ruled out, but try to find out what is causing the loss of sync. In my experience it has never been tmpgenc.

    - Is your source perfect? Quicktime MOV's and some avi's are able to play in sync on the computer even with drifting audio/video clocks and dropped frames, but tmpgenc or whatever your frameserving with may not be able to fix them enough to make a good VCD.

    - Are you over-taxing whatever player you're using? If you are encoding at the bitrate limits of your DVD player or maxing out the CPU of your computer then audio sync will often fail.

If you are encoding a standard VCD with tmpgenc/vcdeasy/cdrwin (all great tools that I use myself) and you're seeing loss of sync, then it has got to be the source since just about anything can handle that format in stride.
