  1. Ulead DVD Movie Factory SE was bundled with my firewire card. When I tried to use it for the first time to burn an SVCD, the audio was out of sync with the video. When I used VCDeasy on mpeg files that were created exactly the same way (only encoding a short sample of the video for testing purposes), no trouble with the audio sync. Also, using the Ulead SVCD plugin to create SVCD's seems fine too. In all cases the audio is fine in the preview. It's only screwed up when playing on my standalone player.

Seems kind of weird to me that the svcd authoring software would cause an audio sync problem, since the mpeg file is the same. But Ulead's web site has a patch that mentions it fixes audio sync problems caused by some hardware mpeg conversions. Well, I'm not using hardware for the mpeg conversion, I'm using Ulead VS6 -- but I'm willing to try the patch!

Has anyone encountered this problem, installed the patch, and had success?

I see lots of audio sync problems in here but they seem to be when people are ripping dvd's using all sorts of tools. I did a pure DV capture and encode to mpeg-2, right from within VS6. So I know I'm not doing something wrong.

  2. Ok, answering my own question.

My problem went away when I installed BOTH CD-recorder patches for DVD MovieFactory. Alone, the one that said it cured audio sync problems did not help.

I had skipped the second one because it said it added more drives... well my drive seemed to be supported so I didn't think I'd need this patch. But I tried it just because I didn't have any other ideas, and my test mpeg worked fine. I haven't tried the full-length one yet.
