  1. HI:

    When I open a divx file in virtualdub, I get the VBR audio stream detected popup message. I've done a search on the forum and read the virtualdub guide, and I believe I have a basic understanding of how to extract an uncompressed audio file and save it as a wav file. I just need confirmation

    My purpose in this extraction is to use TMPGEnc to convert the DIVX to a mpeg2 file so I can burn to CD-Rs. THe aforementioned DiVx file plays fine in WIndows media and seems fine in the beginning when I preview it in virtualdub. I didn't bother to watch the entire 92 minute movie in virtualdub. Under video, I scanned video for errors, and there weren't any frame errors. UNder file info in virtualdub , the audio stream has a sampling rate of 48,ooo hz , and 1 (mono) channel. and the compresssion is a Frau... mpeg 3 layer codec

    I took the following steps for audio extraction:

    Audio _> Full Processing Mode
    Audio --> COmpression --> no compression PCM
    AUdio --> COnversion--> 44100hz.......I didn't change anything else...left it 8 bit mono.
    File --> Save WAV

    THe original 682mb divx file yielded a 467mb wav file. My concern is the disparity in the file sizes. WHen converting the audio, should I also change the settings to 16bit stereo, and check high quality? Or it doesn't matter?

    THX

    No, keep you audio settings at mono. If you wish to do anything to your audio file, do it once you have extracted it, and before you remux it back with your video.
    Hello.
