Can anybody tell me is there any difference in hearing between MPEG-2 48000 Hz 256 kbit/s and 384 kbit/s coding?

Beauty is in the ear of the beholder. The only way you will know for sure is to try for yourself. Just encode a small clip with each and see if you find it acceptable.
In my own opinion, I think 224 sounds find for any 2 channel sound configuration (stereo, joint, dual), but for 4 or more channels, I think a minimum of 384 would be a necessity.Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...
