  1. I`m trying to change the filename of partially downloaded Avi`s,so i can download them from a different source.I know this subject has been on here before but i can`t find the post again.I`m running XP,and often when i try to do this i get the old-"this file is in use-close down any programs that may be using it and try again",even though its not!
I know there is a fix for this,so can someone help me out by posting it again! Thanks!!!

The error your getting is because Windows XP is showing you a preview of the video in explorer, you will see it in the lower right of the window.

Here is how you turn the preview in a window off…

In the window where you are looking at the files, go to TOOLS and select FOLDER OPTIONS.

Then Select USE WINDOWS CLASSIC FOLDERS and APPLY.

Also make sure check that you are viewing ICONS under the VIEW menu option.

Found this, after doing a quick serch in forums for "HKEY":

    Try this:

Start regedit and remove the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D9 4-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32.

    I haven't had a problem since.
Search is a much underestimated feature...

right click and select properties. there you can rename or you can delete the".avi" from the end of the file and then you can delete as normal

Hehe, ur kidding, eh?? When XP won't let u delete this file, then u can not rename it either!!
I had the same problem, and XP always got damn slow when i tried to delete an AVI. Explorer took 99% CPU-usage after this try and the AVI was still there.
