when i use i author to merge the bmp subs i created with subrip, it give a *.mps file
what do i do with that?
is that simmilar to a mpv file i get from tmpegenc when i split the video and audio? would i just merge the mps file with my audio?
Oh and has someone tried to do switchable subtittles? i can't test them since i have no standalone dvd player?
how do they look? are they like exactly what you see from the actual dvd? or are they really bad?

Assuming that all goes well with ripping/authoring/burning, the player supports them properly, etc., the selectable SVCD/CVD subtitles should look about the same as they do on the DVD. I've heard some people have had strange problems with subtitles when they burn with VCDEasy, I did it once and it worked perfectly but the last time I tried it it didn't (I haven't yet taken the time to track down why, I might have just screwed it up).

cool!
but then what am i suppose to do with that mps file? is it a video file with sound already? or do i add the sound to it later like a mpv file? -
I don't use I-Author, so I can't answer that. But by looking at the file size you should be able to guess what it is. If it's very small it's just a subtitle stream that you'll have to mux (I think I-Author can mux it properly), if it's slightly larger than your completed (audio + video) movie file it'll be a finished product.
