  1. I am afraid I am new to creating DVD's, but it looks inevitable.

Are so called "Authoring Media" another way to get you to spend an extra $15, or can you author any (within reason) "General Purpose" DVD-R or DVD-RW?

    Sorry for the simple question

Authoring media is used with the above recorders if you were to send your masterpiece out to get mass replicated at a dvd stamper ..

though putting your project on DLT tape is better IMO ..

for general use use general use DVD-R media (if you have a dvd-r recorder)

dont buy cheap dvd-r disks if you worry about compatability .. apple and maxel supposed to be the best but others here have had good luck with other brands.

    i use apple blanks

  4. Thanks for the information, but I don't want to use the expensive disks! I just want to be sure the general use dvd-r's are sufficiant. (I think you said ...yes) Maybe someone could let me know what they use, and cost.

    Thanks again.

$25 for a pack of 5 apple disks

i said yes - you CAN NOT use authoring disks anyway as i suspect you dont have a DVR-S201 (it is $3000) ..

you can do a search here on this forum and also there is a disk compatibility chart here on blanks to use ..

you can click this link also http://www.google.ca/search?q=blank+dvd-r+disks&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&meta=

You can buy branded Pioneer DVD-R media from www.tapeandmedia.com for 3.50 per disk. I've gone through 40 of these without a single problem.

  9. I've heard of people going through one purchase of pioneer disks with no problems and then their 2nd order...all kinds of problems.

    I wonder why?

Pioneer doesnt make disks anymore - any stock is old stock or B-stock (b-stock dvd blanks were stored subject to heat or some such thing i heard)

..yes ive used them in the past and i use pioneer dvd-rw right now ..

just my supplier doesnt carry them and ive had 100% luck with the apple disks ..

  11. Really? I have not heard anything bad about that media. Here is a quick list of the media I have tried.....

Pioneer:40+ Discs and not a single issue 3.50 Each aprox
Apple: 30+ dics and ot a single issue 5.00 each
TDK: 4 and not a single issue 3.60 each aprox
Pinco: 10 discs and two coasters and 3 DVDs with skipping issues during the last 15 min of the movie. CRAP. 1.98 each
Optodisc: 25 discs. First batch only one issue with movie skipping. Second batch was mostly crap.... I won't be buying these anymore. 1.49 each.

  12. 1.00 a piece media has never been a prob for me.

seems to be different cases with different people, same as CD-Rs. buy some samples of different media to test out what works best for you and what you like.
