NTSC is a US standard, also used in Japan, Canada and I think Mexico. most of the rest of the world uses PAL, some use Secam. most players sold in north America are NOT compatable with PAL. You can get multi-system units but they are rare and usually cost more.

You can NOT play a PAL video on a NTSC only system or NTSC on a PAL only system.

NTSC is the older system of the 2. PAL is a better system but not compatable with NTSC. there is more differrance than jsut Frame rates and resolution/lines.

Hop this helps you understand the situation a little.

JD stuck in Never The Same Color system. (NTSC)

  3. As what arealgijoe stated (BTW: stop using bold!)

You should use NTSC if you live in a country that uses the NTSC TV system and you should use PAL if you live in a country that uses the PAL or SECAM TV system.

What problems are you having playing the DVD? If it is a PAL-NTSC incompatibility issue, usually the image will end up black and white +/- a vertical sync type problem.
