  1. ok, this is just starting to get to me. I need some help PLZ!!!!

I started off with a CD-RW, I was making VCD videos just fine with nero. It was all simple. You picked your files, you opened nero, copy, boom. there it was. I was able to hit the "next" button on the remote, and it would play the next song. No problem. THATS WHAT I WANT!!!!!!

But, now I have a DVD burner. same concept. What am I doing wrong?
I have spurceup, dvdit PE, reeldvd, and even a few others (cant thing off the top of my head, it is 4 am here you know

anyways, I want just what I had on my vcd's on my dvd's. I dont care about menus at all. (but if I have to make one, I will) I just want to be able to put dvd in player and it play. If I hit "next," it plays the next song. If I hit prev, it goes back to the prev. song.

Yes, I have tried the DVDIT help me guild. I dont understand the "chapters" part, but tried it anyways. NO good there.

tried the Spurceup help me guild, again, when getting to the chapters part, I am lost.

    now, I was thinking........

    1) Do I have to make "chapters" cause I am adding about 25 different video files to the dvd. for example, video 1-2.... If I am watching video 1 would I still have to make a "chapter" to hit the "next" button to get to video 2. Or could I just be watching Video 1 and hit the "next" button and it play video 2 with out chapters?

    2) Im I going to see a big difference between the DVD and VCD? what i am getting at is if I download a video from the net, its not in "DVD FORMAT" (not so good looking video, not good sound) would transfering to DVD format help at all? so far, I can only see adifferent in how many "videos" I can add to a DVD over a standered CD.

    3) I have used the TMPGENCDVD help me gouild to convert my vcd into dvd format. but I just dont understand this chapter stuff.

PLEASE, can anyone help me here? Point me in the right direction?

Over all, is it worth going from VCD to DVD? thaks again for helping a "blind man"

    1. yes -- no way around it in what you are trying to do , you have to make chapters but they are easy to do..

    2. not in your case -- re-encoding a bad mpg or vcd to dvd will not make it look better and in most cases worse.
---stay with vcd -- in this case.

    3. dont worry about it ..

    1. you can always try around and then simulate before burning to see how it works or burn on dvdrw.

    2. Crap in crap out...and even if you reencode to DVD the quality will get a bit worse but if you want them all one dvd it may be worth it. You could skip the reencoding cause dvd support the vcd resolution www.vcdhelp.com/vcddvdr.htm but it is also kinda tricky.

  4. Thanks you SO much you two. After about 2 months later, I am going to give in. You two said what I was looking for. I dont give up on stuff real easy, but my reasons are as follows....

    1) It took me about 3 days to convert about 5 gigs worth of info (42 Files) to mpeg2 format using Tmpg. Just so I can put them on DVD.

    2) Now, I can fit about 80 mins on a VCD and 120 min of a DVD. To me, the extra 40 min of Video on DVD is just not worth it.

    3) It going ot take an arm and a leg to put everything on a DVD. Vcd was much easer.

    4) I have a HOT DATE tonight and I dont have time ot make chapters.........and all that

    Thanks again for the info!!!!!

A DVD can hold 6x the data that a 80 min CD can. I'm not sure what you are doing to your video files, but at VCD resolution/quality you should be able to store a LOT more than 2 hrs of video on a DVD.

Checkout http://www.kvcd.net for TMPGEnc templates on storing large amounts of video on a DVD (like the KDVD Half D1 template - 352x480 6-8 Hour Good Quality DVD compliant).
