It is reasonably easy to burn a VCD once you know how.
As far as I can tell you are burning some files to the disc so I guess the burner is working OK.
I'm not sure how you are going about it, but....
To burn a VCD with NERO you have to have a compliant MPEG1 encoded for VCD, or a DAT file you have taken from a pre-existing VCD.
Load up NERO, close wizard if it opens and use icon in left panel which says video CD, double click this to open the window. In the left hand window there will be a number of files, some are just identifiers for VCD etc etc, click in the folder which says MPEGAV.
Browse to the mpeg file in the right hand window and left click and drag it into the left window/panel. NERO will then "check" the file is compliant and if so you will see the projected length in the bottom slide.
Now put in your blank of you haven't already, click the burn icon at the top and slect your speed and voila you should have a compliant VCD.
If you check with explorer oin the pc once it's written you should see a fgile with the extension .DAT in the MPEGAV folder.
Try playing it on your PC with Power DVD or the like to see if the file is OK.
If it plays with power DVD and you still can't play it on your DVD player, then check it is compliant with CDR's, if so try different medium, try a CDRW or one with a darker coating, try burning at a slower speed as well as this sometimes helps.
I hope this answers your problem
regards

Hi,,thanks for trying to help. Hopefully you are still on line,,,I am desperately trying to get this to work,,I know my dvd player supports VCD's,,I think my main problem may be with my audio...(first time for me trying to make a vcd,,have followed instructions to a tee so far,,,very frustrating).
The file is the following ( I have already split it in half,,too big for one cdr) 29.97 fps 352X240 , 48,000 hz,2 channels. This half of the movie is just over 525 MB. If you have any ideas,,would appreciate them. Thanks -
I'm kind of new to this but maybe this will help. First, I think your audio should be recorded at 44.1 not 48.1 (I think 48.1 is DVD). Second, many DVD palyers will not play CD-R but will play CDRW disks. Try burning on a CDRW.
Also, does the CD play on the PC? If it doesn't play there I wouldn't expect it to play on a stand-alone DVD.
Good luck -
Thank you everybody,,I now know how to burn vcd's ,,,I did find out that my dvd player RCA RC5215P says it only plays blue layer CDR's(I believe) and Silver layer CDRW's.
Does anyone know who makes the different cdr's or cdrw's and where I can get them? -
Even if the color of your CD is a major problem, your audio must be sampled at 44.1kHz or its not VCD compliant. Save yourself a headache and just use the template in TMPGEnc.

Thanks I have already encoded my audio to 44,1 khz with TMPGenc. That is not my problem anymore it is getting the proper disc to be played on the RCA RC5215P

Just check your local computer supplies store (CompUSA or similar), they'll have tons of CD-Rs and CD-RWs to choose from. Office supply stores such as Office Max or Office Depot usually have a bunch of CD-Rs as well.

Finally,,,I got the vcd to play in my dvd player using a cdrw...now the fun part is to just find out which cdr I can use. At least I know I am doing things right.LOL
Thanks for everyones help,,,if anyone know the name brand etc..of a cdr that should work in my player ,,I'd appreciate the info. It says it should be blue layer.
