I did a VCD, not bad, but still pixi. I tryed a SVCD, looks slightly better than VCD. At least from what I could tell. How about XVCD, XSVCD, are these better? What can I do to get a better quality. I am using TMPGE. Any help on maybe different setups in VCD, SVCD? They say SVCD is better than VHS, well not what I can see. My VHS shows no signs of block pixi.
Any suggestions?

BTW, Can I buy DVD blanks? Would this allow me to burn without a DVD burner? Are there places that can make a DVD for me?

MPEG compression is blocky, the best quality you can do is don't compress, of course that would take gazzilion terrabytes
You can buy DVD Blanks, they are called DVD-R/RW, but you must have a DVD Burner for them.

Hyper,
Could you describe to me the process that you are using for ripping. The reason being is that I use Smartripper, DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc and produce crystal clear VCDS. It could also be related to the settings being used as well.

HyperJoe,
Just thought you could use a sample SVCD to gage by as far as quality
goes. It's a german clips, but the quality, atre I burned with Nero 5.0.4.4
was IMO, excellent! I'd like to get my SVCDs (even VCDs) to look like
this. I don't know of it's source, but hay, take a look and see for yourself!
I've kept the burned cd, for a gage. Oh, I can rev/fast forward on this
too!
Well, here's the link:

Oh, and this site has a LOT of info and stuff. You could spend a day reading
it all. Well, anyway - have a good day!

Oh, I was just wondering... does anybody know the name of this
movie in the above link? I believe Martin Lawrence is the star, but
that's all I know, and I heard the movie's spose to be pretty good!
I think - smething "steal". . . -
Well im not ripping. I am trying to get my underwater Videos on VCD or SVCD. I have also tried the AVISYINTH, but not real clear on the procedure. Is there any real good directions on who to do this with premiere. I also need to know what to do with it after I captured with Aviysynth.(BTW, this takes 8 hrs for a 45min movie

Sorry Greg, but 640x480 is NOT the resolution TV signals are sent in. Full broadcast PAL is 720x576 which is why DVD MPEG2 and DVcam use that resolution. NTSC is 720x480 incidently. This isn't to be confused with published TV standards that state NTSC is 525 lines at 60Hz and PAL is 625 lines at 50Hz, its a different thing entirely and is to do with the number of scanning lines standard TV sets can update per second. TVs can't normally show the full resolution which is why many authoring and editing software programs have settings to show safe areas. A PAL MPEG1 video sent to the TV at a resolution of only 352x288 will still be shown on the TV as a PAL 625 line 50Hz signal.

The quality seems to me to degrade as you pull it off on tape- if you using a non-DV recorder. I've pulled my videos off at as close to my Sony Hi-8 viewing screen size as possible. It appears that reducing the size of the incoming video yeals a less distortive picture then an enlarged one. So it's given me the best VCD - with less motion steaks during fast movement.
P.S. Hope this helps.
