  1. I am trying to burn an AVI file that is 480x352 DIVX format to VCD. However, when I convert it to MPEG, the sound quality is aweful. It has way too much treble and hiss. It's kind of like if you tried to listen to cheap Walkman headphones really loud. The AVI is of a really old movie and the sound isn't great, but WAY better than after converting to MPEG. I have tried two methods so far and both have resulted in the poor sound quality. The first was using TMPGEnc version 2.5 to convert the AVI to MPEG. The second was to just load the AVI right into Nero Burning ROM 5 and let it do the conversion to MPEG before it burns it to a CDR in VCD format.

    Any idea what I can do to avoid this problem?

    Thanks.

    Okay, since you are converting DivX to VCD, you may want to use this guide:

    This is the part that interest me, that you made no mention of in your post:

    Select Audio-->Full Processing Mode
    Select Audio-->Conversion-->44100 Hz
    Select File-->Save as Wav....

    The best part about audio is that you can tweak it more than video, in my opinion. So once you extract this audio, you can go ahead and load it as your audio input, or there are a few more steps to help you reduce the noise in your audio. Let us know.
    Hello.

    When you convert the movie, select > setting > audio > use audio edit > setting

    From there you can boost while converting, test it out after a few minuets.

    If that is not good enough, load the AVI into www.goldwave.com and enhance the source, save as WAV to be used later with TMPGEnc
