I just bought a DVDR 985 and have recorded a few +rw disks. I'm publishing my own edited material, not copying DVDs. I'm happy with the video, but I wish to change/re-author the main menu and add chapters that standalone dvd players can read.

The software encoder on my edit system takes 20x real time to create the m2v and audio, the 985 is real-time. Can I use the files generated by the DVDR985 in the video_ts folder (.ifo, .vob) to do this authoring if I don't want to change the video at all? I plan to burn
back to a +R disk on a computer +RW/+R burner.

I have some authoring software (Apple DVD StudioPro), and just want to use the 985 as a real-time encoder. Would I have to break apart the .VOB to MPEG2 and AC3 in order to re-author the menus?

Thanks for any pointers to how to do this, or any experiences you've had.
