I would like to know what sort of cdr is best for burning Software or DVDs
Is it the silver ones, those gold ones, or weird looking colored ones? Also what company manufactures them best?

Well, this topic will start a war but my vote goes to the no name, shrink wrapped, nobody brand, sold for $16.00 per hundred!!
That's 16 cents per disc!

Whatever is cheap and still plays in all the devices (stand-alones, etc) that you have.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war." -

Also if you can't find any of the Fuji Film cdrs, anything made in Japan will do.

suposidly, the best CD-R"s are made by Verbatium Corp.
They are the DATA LIFE PLUS
NOT ECONOMY LIFE PLUS. -

I should note that this article is 3 years old and some companies have changed manufactures. TDK now buys from Ritek and Fuji Film now buys from Tayio Yuden. I'm sure some other companies have changed but that’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

Those that make their own media and don't OEM to third parties (that may change at any given moment) still offer the best and most CONSISTENT quality media.

Verbatim Data Life Plus and
TDK Cdrs have always served me well.
TDK is more affordable than Verbatims.
