i am capturing video from my sony tr320e dv camcorder using canopus ezdv card and after editing captured files i then render them to vcd format mpegs using canopus ezdv supplied software.i then burn the files using nero and am able to play them on my pioneer dvd player. i bought ulead dvd movie factory to make menus for the mpeg files, but i'm finding that when i open dvdmf authoring programme and select vcd then add mpeg and select my canopus rendered vcd compliant mpegs dvdmf says "file contains no video or file not compliant" yet i can play them with windows media player no problem.anyone got any ideas why dvdmf can't read them.tried emailing ulead support but after a week i've still not heard from them. thanks

  2. I just downloaded Ulead's Factory trial and got the same error while trying to import MPEG1's created with Canopus' ProCoder from AVI's created with the Canopus DVStorm.

Not sure what the problem is, because these very same MPEGs burned and played fine using Nero to make a VCD.

I'll have a look at the Tools section of this board to see if one of those repair utilities works. But it's still a bit odd.

  3. BTW, Ulead's DVD Movie Factory is good enough to show each MPEG file's characteristics (press the "Info" button when adding a file)-- my MPEGs match the VCD specifications Ulead gives in their own help file, but the program still says they're invalid.

I've just downloaded the MPEG-Corrector utility (see "Tools" section on this site) and I'll see what that does.

  4. Just tried MPEG-Corrector and Ulead DVD Movie Factory still gives an error. Maybe you can try searching this forum for "factory compliant" or something similar.

  6. Don't know if this helps narrow down the problem but I recently installed the EZDV card with the ADVC 100 for capturing. I used the EZDV Video Editor to output a SVCD MPEG and Ulead's Movie Factory didn't give any error about the file.

The file extension that EZDV's Video Editor created for SVCD wasn't .mpg but .mp2 but Movie Factory imported the file without any problem.

  8. why dont you capture the mpegs using ulead via your capture card i find ulead to be very bad at acepting files that are not made from its own capture process

  9. Tonight I tried creating a VCD MPEG and Movie Factory rejected the file; it seems to only like the SVCD files created by EZDV.

I also ran the EZDV VCD MPEG through Ulead MediaStudio Pro 6.0 and did a "smart render" and also a "rerender" and Movie Factory rejected those files as well.

The only way I could get the EZDV VCD MPEG into Movie Factory was to run it through TMPGEnc and rerender it as a VCD; Movie Factory liked that file.

    Very odd....

  11. I also find that Movie factory does not like Mpeg created on any other software. As was suggested if you use it to capture, then you have no problem authorising it, although I am not happy with the quality of the finished product.

  12. In the case of the EZDV card, Movie Factory can't be used to do the capture because it does not recognize it. The capture has to be done through the EZDV capture software or with Premier as far as I know.

The only 2 workarounds that I have found are to use the EZDV editing software to generate the VCD MPEG and then run that file through TMPGenc OR use MediaStudio Pro 6 to edit the AVI file and generate the VCD MPEG file; of course you then lose the functionality of the EZDV software like exporting the edited move back to tape as it only supports DV AVIs.

In my case, the edited AVI would have to be under 4gb due to Windows98SE file size restrictions.

  13. I think I might have a work around that Movie Factory seems to like.

When creating a VCD MPEG from EZDV, instead of using the "Video CD" setting on the MPEG tab, select "MPEG1 System Stream (1)" and set the CBR to 1150000 bps on the Video tab, set Sampling Rate to 44.1 KHz on the Audio Tab, and then output the file.

Using these settings created a MPEG file that Movie Factory imported and burned without a problem. I noticed that previewing VCDs, whether created by EZDV or other editing software, in Movie Factory that the sound is out of sync with the picture; this does not cause a problem on the burned CD when playing in the DVD player.

Let me know if these settings work but so far so good....

  14. I had a similar problem when trying to make dvd's using movie factory. I captured using windvr 1.8 and the whole problem was the audio sampling setting. For some reason, the windvr gave 44.1 khz for the dvd which is really not correct. When I fixed it using tmpgenc, using 48 khz, movie factory accepted it. Now that I have the new windvr 2, the sampling is 48 and movie factory works fine and accepts it. That is the first thing I would look at, the sampling rate of the audio. Also, check all of the other settings, such as the video bit rate. It may be too high to be accepted.
