Can an AVI file be burned onto a VCD?

I am planning to capture VHS tape to an AVI file and then put the AVI file onto a CD-R in order to give the footage to another individual who will edit the AVI file on his computer.
I am of course used to burning VCD's from an MPEG format with NERO.But my question is how do you get an AVI file onto a CD-R. Does it need to be written such as with Nero or can the AVI file just be copied to a CD-R like a data file or JPEG for example. Thanks for your help.

It won't be an actual VCD, nor will it play in anything besides a PC, but you can just burn the avi (as you can with any other file type) to a CD-R as as data disk. Your buddy can copy the avi file to his hard drive and edit from there.

p.s. You might want to burn the necessary codecs to the same CD-R, if he doesn't have them already.

don't forget that a good quality avi capture is about 2.5 mb/sec. That is about 4.3 min on a 650 mb cd-r. mayby it's a better option to capture the avi on a seperate harddisk and bring the complete harddisk to your friend
