You should get a shareware program called TMPGEnc. The free version will convert the mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 files (mpeg-2 for only 30 days). This program will put the files into a format Nero will use. This site in its profound wisdom also has a guide for you to use it as well:

And please read the Newbie guide as well. It will answer a lot of questions before you even ask them.
    Hello.

  3. Either the real-time mpeg2 SVCD settings, or AVI with Huffy, you can go to 352x480 and/or crop to get smaller file, also try VDUB. Capture files of good quality will be HUGE.

You can cap MPG2 at high-bitrate for good mix of quality and filesize but editing and encoding are slower and more difficult.

  4. If you are concerned about drive space you should capture using MJEG codec at quality 18. I think it compresses better than Huffy anyhow and takes MUCH less HD space. Capture at the highest resolution your system will allow (but don't go above 640x480...it's a waste of your time)

  6. Give us some details. Are you hoping to encode this eventually to SVCD or VCD? It makes a difference as to what resolution you cap. to. Give us exactly how much space you have to play with. My general advice (especially if you are making VCD) is to capture to 352 x 480 and then resize. Capping at that resolution in MJEG should take up SIGNIFICANTLY less space than Huffy. But, again, we don't know enough details.

  8. Please re-read the VCD specifications.....your sound capture is off. That is why Nero is having issues. You should also pick up the MMC marker tool from the tools section of this website since MMC sometimes has issues making compliant VCDs.
