  1. My Asus V7700 card is capturing in black and white only. Is this right, or have I missed something which will allow me to capture in colour?

  2. If you are capturing from S-video input, be sure that the source send both S-video signals (luminance and chrominance).
In the SCART connector there is one pin that carry the composite video or the luminance of S-video, depending on what the source sends.
If used in the wrong way (output in S-video, input from composite) the result can come out in B&W.
    Hope it helps

  3. Thanks for the speedy reply!

I'm pretty new to all this stuff, and what you are talking about is slightly above me.

I am connecting through the S-video in port as you say. My source is a vcr at the moment, although I have tried to hook up my camcorder with the same black and white results.

Are you saying I need to swap some pins on the cable?

  4. If your VCR has a separate S-video output connector (4 pin), probably it has to be enabled by something (software menu or hardware switches).
If you are taking the signal from a SCART connector (21 pin) with an adapter to S-video, you must be sure that your VCR can send S-video in output.
If so, verify it is enabled as before.

I think you have already checked the software input selector, in your capturing application, between composite and S-video.
As a last resource, check with another S-video cable.

  5. As far as the output on the vcr is concerned, there are only rca sockets on the back, and this is what I am using to output to my capture.

The port on my card has seven pins, but the manual says that it is the S-video capture port.

My card came bundled with an S-video (seven pin) to composite (rca) adapter lead which I am using to go between the two devices.

As to the software input selector in my capturing application, no, I have not done this. (im using virtualdub if that helps).

if your vcr has only rca outputs -- use rca input on your capture card .. other wise you are not getting the colour componet.

or if that card uses a breakout cable and that is the only input .. as stated before, make sure you enable composite input (not s-vhs) as that is what your source is .
