can i capture a vcd higher than 352 x 288 then re-encode with tmpge to vcd format.
if so what settings would i need to change in tmpge.
im looking to get the best quality i can in vcd format, from vhs capture??
any help would be great.
Example:
i have captutred a tv programme, and edited out the adverts,
i joined it together with tmpge, in there merge, cut and join section.
it gives you the option to join them in different formats,
vcd standard, vcd non standard, mpeg2 etc,
i chose vcd standard rather than mpeg 1 system automatic.
even though i captured @ 340 x 288 and at 8000 bits, it still let me
join the video together, when i used nero it lets me copy fine,
rather than telling me its not the right file etc.
when i tried to copy the mpeg 1 system version i had made nero would not like me copy saying it was non standard,
has anyone got any thoughs or feed back?

Yes you can capture at non-standard VCD bitrate (higher than 1150) and resolution (353x288) and re-encode to standard VCD in TMPG.
Just open your MPEG-1 in TMPG and Load the VCD template (PAL). It will resize to 352x288 and encode at 1150 bitrate.
One thing though, in the future with TMPG merge and cut, select the video type to match the video you wish to merge and/or cut. Why? TMPG can be a bit buggy about this and may end up messing up your video. Bad cuts or audio/video out of sync. If you have lets say a captured 352x288 @ 8000 bitrate, use non-standard VCD during your merge/cut. You can thank me later -
