  1. Hi,

I 've tried to encode an AVI source file originating from DV (PAL 720x576) to SVCD (480x576) with TMpgEnc, then to XSVCD, that is, only modifying the size to 720x576 in the settings window.

Result: I can't see any quality difference, and moreover, the XSVCD mpg file is ... 5 % smaller than the SVCD mpg file !!!

Does someone know about this and what I am supposed to do to get a better quality with XSVCD ?
    Thanks.

Changing the resolution has minimal effect on the filesize.

To get better quality over an SVCD (and a bigger filesize!) you need to encode at higher bitrates than a standard SVCD. This will howver make your video incompatible with some DVD players.

Encode little samples and test on your player.
