How to LOWER burning speed?

I bought a new burner (LG 32x10x42) and its slowest mode for CD-Rs is 8x. As it seem to be too fast for my standalone DVD I would be very glad if someone could tell me how to reduce to 4x or if there's a way at all ?!!!

By the way, where can i get an XP patch for bbmpeg???

Not possible without a F/W change to the drive F/W. The drive is optimized to burn at the Speeds listed. If you burned at a slower speed you would probably get even worse problems with playback. I would make sure you are using good CD-R media. Cheaper media will have crappy playback.

While it doesn't hold true in all cases, many "reduce the burn speed to reduce errors" advice is spread by people that, while they may have fine burning software and equipment, shop for the "8 trillion no-name discs on a spindle for 99 cents" deals that are all too common out there. Being on a tight budget is understandable, but sometimes you can get too cheap.

As an example, many people shy away from Pioneer recordable DVD media because of the hefty price tag, but you rarely ever hear anyone say that very same royally-priced media has exhibited any widespread compatibility issues. You will, however, hear such complaints about much of the "50 cent DVD media" out there. Variations of "I can't get anything to burn at 2x except that hellishly-priced Pioneer stuff" are fairly common.

I believe some of the newer burners with "burn proof" technology automatically lower the burn rate to ensure a good burn on a low-quality disc.

burn proof is "buffer under run proof" but on some plextor and other drives ther is a thing called power-rec II that automatically lowers the burn speed on low-quality media

Its a fact that if you want error free VCD's or SVCD's lower your speed to 8x, other than that buy good media that is certified to burn at your fastest speed on your burner. These people who burn at 24x, 32x, 40x on VCD's and wonder why it'e jerky or will play on my computer but not on my DVD player, get a life, try it at a slower speed, your sub $150 DVD players are using cheap DVD drives any way, lowering the speed will help.
