VCD playback keeps pausing

I've tried creating VCDs in several programs (EZ CD Creator, Nero, VCDEasy), and have the same problem in each one. When playing them back on my DVD player (Panasonic...don't have the model number handy), I usually have to insert the disc a few times before the player will recognize it. Then it mostly plays just fine, except that it pauses (for maybe 15-20 seconds) every once in a while.

Is it likely that the DVD player can't keep up when playing homemade VCDs (my guess)? Or is it my media, or some option in setting the authoring software up?

I too have a Panasonic DVD (A320) - keeps pausing with my vcds as well.....

one of many possibilities:

When you make your vcd are you including more than one mpeg file on the vcd when you convert using nero, etc.? I do caps of Star Trek TNG and I use to splice out the commercials with powervcrII 3.0 and would make a vcd out of the resulting files. Nero has an option on it that automatically places a 5 second pause between switching to the next .dat file.

This is probably not your answer, but figured I'd through an possibility into the mix.

If that is not it, my next guess would be your cd media (brand of CD-R). Have you tried using a CD-RW? I have heard that that sometimes takes care of the problem. Also, burning the vcd at a slow speed (1x, 2x, 4x) will do it. I know people that have panasonic dvd players that have resolved their problems by doing cdrw at slow speeds.
