Nero burn works fine, but no file on disc

I've burned VCDs with Nero using CD-R and CD-RW. The burn seems to work fine, but I never have a resulting file on the disc. The disc isn't even recognized on my PC. I get the same result no matter which disc I use. I've tried several different files. Encoding is all done with Tmpgenc.

Running XP with Samsung CD writer and the latest version of nero.

Any ideas?

do you have the "simulate" burn unchecked?

I do have the "simulate burn" unchecked. Strangely, the PC tries to read the disk, but all I get are the CD-ROM activity lights as long as the PC is turned on. It seems to search the disk forever, but nothing happens. This will go on forever without an error message, just a spinning CD-ROM and nothing on the disk. Is there header information or something that I'm not including?
