  1. I followed the DivX to SVCD guide using TMPGEnc exactly. My source is a DVD Rip (PAL). I made a WAV file using VirtualDub just like the guide said to.

After I encoded the movie I turned it into a BIN/CUE file using VCD Easy and then burned it using CDRWin.

I've made VCDs that worked perfectly in my Curtis Mathes DVD player and been able to play the SVCD sample from this website with no problems at all.

When I try to play a SVCD that I've made the audio cuts in and out every few seconds throughout the whole movie. The picture is fine and the audio is always in sync, it just cuts in and out.

I've also tried 2pass Variable Bitrate(VBR) instead of Constant Bit Rate(CBR) and that still produced the same problem.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Do you hear the same pauses in the audio listening to the wav file on your hard drive ?

If so, then the problems probablty with the source clip. If not, then I'd suspect at some of those "mute" points the clip is exceeding your players bitrate capability due to the VBR of the vid stream pushing it above at high motion or active scenes, then it lowers for less involved areas / times.

  3. The WAV file is fine on the hard drive. I can use the same WAV file for a VCD and an SVCD and the VCD will work great but the SVCD audio cuts in and out.

Even with constant bitrate I have the same problem so I don't think it's the bitrate. The sample SVCD works great on my DVD player so I know there is someway to get it to work.

Does anybody know how the sample SVCD movies were encoded?

Hey, good to see someone out there owns a Curtis Mathes DVD player besides me. This player is a great player, no doubt.
