Hi, I captured videos from Sony Handycam Video 8 (PAL) with resolution 352x576 using AVI_IO then convert it to PAL MPEG1/VCD format using CCE 2.64 SP with VCD template/half vertical resolution. But it seems that there's no quality difference compare to when capturing with 352x288. The AVI which was captured at 352x576 had somekind of black thin line/comb. I feel a little dizzy after watching the result/VCD on TV,but it didn't happen on PC's monitor. Is this somekind of interlacing problems ? Thanks.

Well YES, allthough some says VCD doesn't accept Interlacing, it realy can be done.
I'm capturing analogue via a Matrox RT-2500. The card translates the non-interlaced video to interlaced (bottom/top-first, I don't know).
After processing of the avi, I load it into TMPGenc (first select the template you're gonna use : SVCD or VCD - then load the avi). TMPGenc will reset some settings of the template with those of the avi. If it detects the avi is interlaced, but the template says to encode in non-interlaced/progressive mode, these settings will be changed to interlaced (top/bottom, whatever the source originally is).
Then after the encoding (which goes much faster when the avi is in DV-codec), the resulting mpg looks terrible when played onto a computer (while the screen of a computer is actualy 'non-interlaced'), but when you burn it onto a VCD and play it at your TV, you'll see that it's quality is splended.
E.g. : In the past I captured and encoded using non-interlaced/progressive. The result looked nice on my pc, but was terrible on my tv (lots of artefacts). But these days, while I'm capturing and encoding using interlaced, the result looks terrible at my pc (but who cares : I'm not intended to watch all those movies in front of my pc), but looks terrific on my tv (and NO artefacts, even not with sub-titles and in VCD resolution : that's also why I'm only creating VCD - while it's resolution is okay for me, so why spend more cd's for each movie?)..
