  1. I was wondering if anyone else has problems with the menu when burning vcd/svcd's with Nero. Sometimes it doesn't encode the background menu picture properly. Has anyone had this problem and did you manage to correct it?
Also, when you make a vcd with a menu, (I don't like it when the movie starts by itself when you stick it in the player as I am setting up the movie while my wife is fetching me snacks) can you set it up to start playing by pressing "play", instead of "1".

Hi Again Mark, dont worry im not stalking you, i answer everthing i know about because i would want others to do the same.

Your better using VCD Easy to do the SVCDs as it allows you to use chapters and also set how long u want the menu picture to stay there and it also let use the skip button to start the film if thats preferable for you.

Although if you still want to use nero and want the menu to stay there for a set time.
After u have added the menu and the mpegs then right click menu page 1 and click on properties, u should then see an option to change the time after track.

Hope that helps ,as for presssing play i havn't found that out yet

  3. Stalk away Martyn. I have found all that you have said in the past few days very useful. I should just give you my e-mail address and be done with it.
I did set out to try VCD Easy a handful of days ago, but it is not liking my burner. It says "No Cd- Writer selected, possible Aspi problems".
I had loaded the Nero aspi layer previous (Win XP had none) and then when that problem arose, tried all the adaptec ones. I read that "If you have problem with the aspi layer and your cd-writer, then create a bin file and burn with Nero" Real helpful eh! That brings me back to where I left off with my original problem.
    Thanks again for the help.

    Cheers from BC, Canada,

Not exactly Mark, i usually use Blindwrite to burn the image files as VCD easy doesn't recognize my burner either, but i have also used Nero too.

Nero will burn the image file exactly as u set it in VCD Easy.

Just in case u dont know how to but you probably do, its File then Burn Image then select the image file and then Write the CD

  5. Okay I may be slowly tuning in here. I have only burnt with Nero from an image file once before so I am not thinking correctly. I never stopped to think if you are burning from an image file, you don't go through the Nero SVCD, menu setup.

Sorry you had to spoon feed me on that one.

The "play" button on most DVD players is mapped as the "default" button for VCDs.

If you author a menu with VCDImager / VCDEasy so that pressing "default" will start the movie, then pressing "play" (on most DVD player remotes) will do what you want.

Not That i know of, not sure why you want to create the menu in Nero, theres nothing wrong with the VCD Easy menus, although i did make a trailer SVCD and i wanted a nero type menu, that had them all listed and told you the appropriate button to access it, rather than having to skip to it, i dont know if this is why your wanting to use nero, but i just created a bitmap file edited it in paint added some text then i made sure in VCD Easy that i could skip using the number keys, converted the bmp to a mpeg and it worked like a dream, a lot of work though so i havn't done it since, are you wanting to use nero for a reason or are you just curious to see if it can be done.

  9. well, basically, i HAVE to use nero because vcdeasy, as awesome as it is, absolutely REFUSES to work with my new yamaha burner. it's very frustrating because every time i click GO in vcdeasy, it creates the BIN, but fails when it tries to burn.

while i'm thinking of it, is there a way that i can just burn the dang BIN with vcdeasy, rather than having to create a new one before it goes into the burning phase of the process??? i'm tellin ya man.... $20.00 for a dvd isn't sounding too bad compared to this.... but then again, i just did an awesome vcd (the big lebowski) complete with chapters and menus.... what a good feeling

    thanks for the reply bro

Is there anybody who can use VCD Easy to burn the VCD, even the maker of VCD Easy recommend CDRWIN and Nero to burn the image files, i personally use Blindwrite, but they all do the same thing.

if VCD Easy dont support your CD Burner then you probably cant use it, you can force driver but i havn't tried that yet and wouldn't want to as im happy the way im doing it, create your VCD in VCD Easy and click on go, let it make the image files, when its done close down VCD Easy and open up Nero or any of the above but im guessing u have Nero, close the New Compilation box in Nero and click on File go down to Burn Image and go to the folder and find the Cue File VCD Easy Created and select it, then click on Write CD and thats it, exactly as you created it, Menus and chapters, i hope this is what you want, but if you want VCD Easy's chapters and Nero's Menus then i dont think it can be done.

By the way, i think your realising why most people on here do this, its not because they grudge paying for DVD's it just its a great feeling when you do it well, i just spent £150 on my comp so i could make it encode video faster, i could have bought 10 dvds instead, i do this for fun not greed or to make a profit.

  11. I use VCDEasy / CDRDAO to burn all my CUE/BIN images.

You MUST install an ASPI layer for it to work. Get ForceASPI or the Adaptec download and install it.

As for Nero menus, why on earth do you want to use those? VCDEasy / VCDImager can make much better (and functional) menus than Nero.

    You'll be surprised...

CDRDAO (the burning proggy that comes with VCDEasy) should work with almost all newer burners as long as the ASPI layer is installed correctly. If you are having problems with Adaptec's ASPI layer, what does ASPICHK.EXE say when you run it?

Also, the default selected driver may not necessarily be appropriate for your burner either. Have a look at: http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drivers.html to see if that helps.

Generally, the generic-mmc or generic-mmc-raw should work with most burners.

The problem from the VCDEasy perspective is that VCDEasy is not bundled with an ASPI layer and CDRDAO default settings often don't work.

    Good luck.
