I have a couple of VHS tapes (not SVHS) I would like to transfer to XVCD. I'm using what appears to be a high-end VCR with SVHS and SVCD (in & out) support. I have a ATI TV Wonder capture card and running Windows 98 Windows 2000 with the latest drivers.

What is the best method to use to get these tapes to XVCD with the best possible quality??? (I've been through the how to for vhs capture here on VCDHelp.com, but I'm not satisfied with the results)

I will eventually burn these to VCD.

Please respond with detailed steps if you can, I would greatly appreciate it.

    TIA,
    Syro

  2. hey, i've been doing the same thing you want to do my whole purpose was to make vcds out of my older vhs tapes so i dont need to have them around. i have an ati aiw also, the program ive been using to do it is virtual dub and ive been using mulitsegment captures and caping at 352x240 uncompressed avi, it sucks up a lot of storage space so you could use some compression, i encode with tmpeg but instead of using just 1150 kbps i use a lil higher like 1400 or 1800, personally i think they have come out alright but a few of my drawbacks our i dont have an s video vrc so all of my caps were composite connection and the video quality in the end product has a little bit of block noise, but you can play around with your encoder settings, i recommend you do a few test rips using a cdrw of the same section of video at different bit rates and settings and use what you feel is the best also if you use tmpeg use noise reduction i use 60 1 60 just what i used you could try that out.
