    I have an analog MPEG-1 capture card (ProVideo PV231) and I'm not satisfied whith the quality I get when capturing to VCD. Unfortunately I can't change anything using the capture software, but I found the registry entries the card uses. Most entries look a lot like the terms TMPGenc uses. I'll list them below.

    Can some of you give me an advise on what entries to change (from enable to disable and vice versa) so I get better quality VCD?

    "MPJ_FRAME_DISTANCE"=1
    "MPJ_MPEG_B_START"=0
    "MPJ_MPEG_BIT_RATE"=00118c30
    "MPJ_MPEG_CLOSED_GOP"=0
    "MPJ_MPEG_DUPLICATE_B"=0
    "MPJ_MPEG_GOP_HEAD_FREQ"=1
    "MPJ_MPEG_HALF_PEL"=1
    "MPJ_MPEG_INTRA_DISTANCE"=5
    "MPJ_MPEG_NUMBER_OF_B"=3
    "MPJ_MPEG_RC_METHOD"=0
    "MPJ_MPEG_SCENE_CHANGE"=1
    "MPJ_MPEG_SEQUENCE_HEAD_FREQ"=3
    "MPJ_MPEG_SLICE_HEAD_FREQ"=1
    "MPJ_MPEG_TC_FRAME_NUMBER"=0
    "MPJ_MPEG_TC_HOUR"=0
    "MPJ_MPEG_TC_MINUTES"=0
    "MPJ_MPEG_TC_SECONDS"=0
    "MPJ_MPEG_TELECINE"=0
    "MPJ_MPEG_TIME_STAMP"=0
    "MPJ_MPEG_VBV_INITIAL_FULLNES"=13
    "MPJ_MPEG_VBV_SIZE"=14
    "MPJ_PICTURE_RESOLUTION"=1
    "MPJ_QUALITY"=8
    "MPJ_VIDEO_IN_BLANK"=0
    "MPJ_VIDEO_STANDARD"=0

    I think 0=disabled and 1=enabled.

  2. Most likely the only change that will make batter video is to increase the bit rate, making it a non-VCD standard. Record at max bit rate and then convert it to VCD with Tmpeg encoder.
