  2. Is it when you get to 4GB, are you using fat32 file system, as this it the file size limit with this system. If you want to go above 4GB you need to convert to NTFS file system.

  4. The only way to change to NTFS is the format the Hard drive. Go to bios choose boot to cd first(if it doen't already), put winxp cd in cd-rom, restart computer. It should boot to cd instead of HD at that point Win xp will lead you through setup. The only way to get NTFS is to let win xp format your HD with it when prompted. You will lose all your data on your HD, but you will be able to a have file over 4gb on the drive.

You can also do the same with Win2K. I tried XP, had too many problems, so went back to Win2K, have not had a problem since.

I don't think a reformat is necessary under XP. It definitely isn't under Windows 2000, where I have gone from FAT32 to NTFS on several PCs. I would search XP's Help to see how to change file system. On Win2K it involved something like a defrag and thorough disk check, plus a reboot.

I Have been proven wrong. I thought the only way to chnge to NTFS was through formating ( Ive never installed NTFS on a pre-existing winxp) . I just assumed you had to format the HD to change your FAT. Any way here's a link to more info http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/itpro/managing/convertfat.asp

    Sorry about the wrong info

  9. I'm not really for certain . I'm fairly sure in will work. I did it the opposite way once with win xp on a drive with NTFS and a second drive with Fat32 on it and it worked fine. It's really not gonna hurt alot except the time it takes to format the drive. You might wanna try it / post a reply and tell me how it worked I would really like to know.

  10. I have xp installed on my 30gb c drive with fat 32 and have a 40gb and 2x120gb drives formatted to NTFS for video, so yes you can do it that way.

Or, you can just have your DVD authoring software generate a DVD TITLE SET, instead of an image (which can be greater than 2^32 in size). Once a title set is created, just drag them into your burning software of choice (I use the DVD-Video template in NERO) and burn away.

  12. converting to NTFS is easy, getting back without reformatting another story...

Goto a command prompt, run menu, cmd

    convert c: /fs:ntfs

You'll have to reboot a couple of times and that's that.

Also, a second hard drive that is NTFS should have no problems with the file size limit as XP will use the file system to its fullest
