  1. Hello all
I am trying to capture the Worldcup with my AIW8500DV. At first I was using the example from one fo the user guides here http://www.vcdhelp.com/ATI_AIW_Guide.htm. But still the Video is a lil choppy. It is clear in small screen but when i make it full screen its a lil choppy and i can see small blocks around the players and around the words. It looks fine when I look it at. but when i leave it recording, and view it the next day it doesnt look good. I want to record for vcd format, so that way i can burn them. Can some one please give me the correct setting i should use, so i can record the worldcup while i sleep. Is there any other software that will let me do this?? Thanks to all for any help

There are a number of alternatives here. I think your bitrate is too low and therfore the blocks around players and words. I too have been capturing the world cup. I have been using 2 methods.

    1) Capture MPEG1: 352x240, bitrate 2400, audio 224 (can use fro 128-224). Capture only I frames (because of lots of motion). I can fit 45 minutes + extra time on one disk.

    2) Capture MPEG2: 320x240, bitrate 2500, audio 224. Quality is EXCELLENT!!! To burn as VCD, I re-render in TMPG to VCD specs. Resulting output is better video quality than in step 1. Burn on 2 CD-R. Quality excellent, but obviously takes longer.

    I use Visiotek Xtasy Everything on P3 500MHZ 128MB RAM Win98SE.

  4. If you are going to re-render captured video from an ATI card, you are better off capping at a much higher bitrate (at least 8mbps) I Frame only and use TMPGenc to convert this down to VCD or SVCD bitrates. The quality will be much better than trying to grab directly to low bitrate files with MMC 7.6.
