I have successfully used VCD easy - any and all versions for some time now with 2 different burners, my latest CD-R drive being a Plextor 12x40x12a. VCD has always read (ASPI seems valid: NO) but I have not had one problem - ever. I am running Windows ME, Do I need to worry about ASPI or just forget about it since all is fine.??????

My personal experience with ASPI 4.7 was very frustrating with 98SE and W2K Pro. Warez that used to work had quit recognizing my Plextor burner. Then I found this info...

...loaded Compel version 4.6. All runs well now. Also the burner initializes quicker. -
ForceASPI v1.7 (which installs the Adaptec ASPI layer v4.6) works well too.

The driver (Depending on OS) will install 4.60 , there is a test utility to go with it.
Also the writer software will install its own, and works by looking in its own folder for it, if one is not found it then loads it from the system folder. Nero has, NeroAPI.dll older versions did have the same file name.
The utility check to see if the files all match is supplied "ASPICHK "
