  1. Now that chicago has had a couple hot days, I have a problem.

My dad leaves the AC off to save energy. Its very hot inside my VCR and I am scared my tapes or even the electronic stuff inside will become damaged.

Is there a simple way I could cool my VCR?

  2. You could always put a fan next to it and have it blow on it. And yeah you dont want that tape getting to hot, that can really jack with the tape itself.

  3. Is there some way I could add a PC can to it? How would I power the fan and is there some way I could get it in there without voiding my warranty?

  4. If you are willing to invest a few bucks and hours, yes. You could buy a CPU or PC fan($15-20) you would have to patch its power through the VCR's main power supply. I would suggest reading through electronics papers before digging in and look over the build of your player. And yes, it would void your warrenty to add one, they dont want you to open it AT ALL. They feel pay us 100 dollars to fix your 50 machine.

Now all that being said, I dont think its worth it. If I wanted to cool my vcr down, I would just take its cover off and have a small fan blow into it. Just make sure you have no animals or children that will stick their fingers or tongues into the machine.

  5. Yah its a SVHS vcr so I really don't want to **** with it.

Could I get a extension cord and somehow convert the PC fan's plug to a standard outlet? Then I would just put it in the vcr's door during use.

This is a joke, put the VCR into the fridge. It is so cool inside it.

Be careful with video tapes, where you put them. Not necessarily in the VCR, your video tapes will be damaged in a hot room. Especially if the temperature is over 100 degrees. I remember having a vinyl record warped in a hot room with the curtain closed.

My advice is to have the AC on to protect your video tapes and your equipment.
