  1. Hi,

    I have a movie in the aspect ratio 2.09 : 1 (704 x 336 pixels). Can I convert this into a VCD maintaining the original aspect ratio or is a VCD fixed to 352 x 240 pixels or 352 x 288 pixels?

    Any help will be appreciated

  2. I always encode anamorphic DVDs at the full resolution, so I end up with an anamorphic VCD. Thus I preserve the resolution advantage of anamorphic DVDs to the VCD. You need a 16:9 TV or 4:3 TV with 16:9 mode, though.

  4. yes, you can preserve the original aspect ratio. i was actually unaware of many/any dvd players that will play vcds with DAR acceptance, but i think what dirk was explaining was that his tv would stretch it automatically, not the dvd player.

if you have a regular 4:3 tv, and want to play in your dvd player, your best bet would be to letterbox your source in vcd. ie, encode black bars into your movie.

you can do this easiest in tmpgenc. set your source as anamorphic widescreen (16:9). then in encode mode, you want Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio. this will keep the aspect ratio and add black bars to your movie.
