  1. I have a few older videos that I have been trying to mpeg for use on my computer, but I am having some trouble with it. I go through the s-video out on my vcr to a canopus advc-100 converter which is attached to my computer through a firewire (I am not sure if that would be my capture card). When I use newer video's or record straight from the tv do dv, I never have a problem, and have never dropped a frame. My problem is with my older videos of some concerts I have. Once I transfer them to my computer, the quallity is so inconsistant that you can't really watch them. THe sound is bad....it is completely choppy and both the video jump or speed up every couple of seconds. The video's tend to have a bit of static on them, but when watching them on tv it is barely notable. On my computer, if there is so much as a tiny line of static that appears on the screen, in completely distorts the sound, and messes up the picture. I've also converted these videos to mpeg to see if it makes a difference, but it doesn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am using adobe premiere or pinnacle studio dv which came with my computer, and the canopus converter. I have tried a varity of different
setting with these programs, and also messed around with my computer settings, but nothing has made any difference.
Are my setting wrong perhaps? or is there no fix this..sorry for the looong post, I am just too frustrated
The only other note is that regardless of the video, I don't drop any frames ever, the tape is horrendous then I'll drop a few frames, but otherwise that is not a problem, if that helps any..

  2. In looking at getting this device I heard that it does not like video that is flaky. Someone suggested a time base corrector to help it. They aren't cheap but you should look into it.

  5. I've looked around the cheapest I've found is around 300, but most are around a 1000. It sucks b/c in is perfect quality when its from tv and that sort of stuff, but what I really need is for is videos.....Do you think it would be worth it purchase a new capture card with an analog input ??(which is the more inexpensive choice) Or will I most likely run into the same problem??
    Thanks for your help
