Hi,
I've been burning VCDs with Nero. The Nero's menu editor is VERY limited and I'd really like to use some external editor for burning my VCDs with much better menus, is this possible? With what?

thoose are authoring programs. they will give you a bin/cue combo to burn with nero or outher burning tools. You can burn with them too if your burner support dao.

You could use the philips video cd 2.0 toolkit, gives many options for menus, the drawback is that the mpeg file must be 100% whitebook compliant, that means normally you ve got to encode video and audio seperatly and join it with the provided mux function, and produced file can only be burned with gear pro (may somebody know how it would work with nero?). Anyway the result perfect concerning the vcd 2.0 standard
.

Well, I'm gonna look into TSCV, but I'd like others to give me any ideas you may have on this issue. How to produce menus with better ease and "freedom" then nero does ... ?

For the best (most powerful) and most comprehensive VCD authoring package, I strongly suggest that you use VCDImager. It can author menus to any complexity that you desire (within the realms of VCD standard of course).
A number of relatively good GUIs are out to make the job easier and VCDEasy is a good choice. The newest versions can now even do the job of encoding (real) MPEG still images that are often used for still menus.
You can download a demo VCD at http://www.vcdimager.org to see what you can achieve with the program (MUCH MUCH more than Nero).
Similarly, go to http://www.vcdimager.org/guides for some info. guides and theory on VCD authoring. The guides tell how to do things from the base XML level. Things are easier to do now with GUIs (e.g., VCD Easy) but you just can't beat manual XML editing for authoring flexibility.
