Strange vcd burning problem with NERO

I can burn small vcds with menus using nero and the guide on this web site. (two videos with menus pointing to them - around 60MB). Works fine.

I'm now trying to burn about 630MB with 10 separate mpegs with menus. All goes OK for the first 2-3 tracks, then everything locks up during the burn process. (not always at the same point either). The CD-RW drive stops burning and just seems to cycle making strange mechanical noises. The NERO software display just sits there at the same percenatge complete, with the burn time ticking over. I've left it sit there for about 30 minutes before trying to cancel or kill it, which I can't do under win 2000. (access denied). In fact, I can't even shut down win 2000 properly. I have to turn the power off to recover once the machine gets into this state. Meanwhile, the writer just sits there making funny noises. Win 2000, SCSI CDRW, Pentium III 933, 256MB.

I first suspected a hardware problem, so I installed Nero on a different win 98 based PC with an IDE CDRW drive. It gets to about the same stage (random, but early on) in writing and everything locks up. Not even the time in Nero updates. The writer just sits there with its light flashing. Win 98 not responding at all. Have to power down PC.

I've hosed about 10 RW media so far! Pulling my hair out! Following the guides to the letter, and it works for single, or small mpeg vcds! What am I doing wrong????

I have the same problem. I was able to point menus to smaller mpg's but once I added a larger file and tried the menu Nero would just lock up the machine (Win ME). What I did to get around it was build my vcd with smaller files and use the menu option. Then save the layout, close Nero, rename the files I really wanted to use (bigger files) then restart Nero and load the saved project. It would load the bigger files no problem, then burn it. I know this is not the way it should be and would really suck on a big project but it worked for me this way and my disc is done and works great. Be sure the files are in the same directory as the first ones used in the layout. Good luck.

Just a thought, something I saw mentioned w/r/t a similar problem. Have you tried burning the files to an image, and then just copying the image to disc?

Brandon, thanks, yes, I did try that yesterday. It gets around 25% done, then comes back with the same situation. (whether simulating or actually writing). The Nero log reports "Write Error". Have tried everything on their support site for this error. Now I will submit the question to them and see what they think

I've been able to burn semi-large files on Nero with menus. Up to about 300mb files with no probs.. I haven't tried anything larger than that though.
