Good evening.
Thanks for the DVDFab 13 link. The full program is too expensive for me. Isn't there a link for DVDFab Blu-ray Ripper?
I ran the trial version of DVDFab 13 on a virtual Windows 11 Pro machine (VirtualBox). My Blu-rays are showing read errors. And that's with a brand new Blu-ray.
I also have VSO ConvertXtoVideo and Blu-ray Converter Ultimate. I'd like to continue using them. But they don't work. I have to rip the Blu-ray first. That's where the problem lies.
Is there still a key available for AnyDVD 8.7.1.1? Or a successor program?
A complete backup using MakeMKV Beta also fails. Do I need a newer version or database? Where can I get both?
Best regards

"Is there still a key available for AnyDVD 8.7.1.1? Or a successor program?"
anydvd will still work with newer 4k discs if you to point it to the keydb.cfg file.
go to settings then uhd and you'll see a box that says "path to external key file".
anydvd no longer works with newer blu ray discs. and it since the company is gone. and the program had to connect to their servers to get the keys to decrypt blu ray. seems there's no way, it will work with newer discs.
are you having problems with certain discs or all disc ? sometimes giving a disc a slight cleaning can help.
also do you have another drive you can rip on ?
i had a blu ray that xreveal, basically tapped out on. that anydvd was able to rip fine. so anydvd might be a better option for problematic discs.
just wish there was way to get it working with newer discs. -
I'm currently trying out another Blu-ray.
All the Blu-rays are clean and have no scratches on the surface.
I only have an external Blu-ray burner connected to my laptop. I've connected it via USB. It can't be the USB port, can it? Should I try a different port?
My AnyDVD HD 8.7.1.1 won't even start because of a missing key. Is there any way I can find a key?
I found this page: http://fvonline-db.bplaced.net/
Should I try creating a new KEYDB.cfg file? But which version? The one for German?
Best regards
Heiko -
your anydvd won't start.
close your program and put your license registration file in the same folder as the program. click on the license registration file and it should activate.
(the program still activates despite the anydvd server being no more)
the next time you try to start anydvd it should open/run.
repeat the keydb stuff will only help anydvd read uhd 4k discs. if your drive isn't capable of reading those type of discs. this file will be of no use to you/won't work in anydvd !
"Should I try creating a new KEYDB.cfg file? But which version? The one for German?"
supposedly it doesn't make a difference which language file you use. but since i live the the states i picked the english one. and i have had no problems.
anyway, yes try different blu rays. try discs that you have ripped before. and see if there are problems now.
try different ports too. try everything.
good luck.Last edited by geek gift; 5th Jan 2026 at 16:32.

DVDFab Passkey LIte will rip regular resolution blu ray.
It is not supposed to rip 4K or UHD blu ray but always worth a try on those any way.
It is free so no reason not to try it.
The Any DVD version you have is by red fox.
I did not purchase it from them.
If you can find your key to activate then what geek gift posted may work for the keydb.
I have the older slysoft Any DVD HD. It can NOT have the keydb added to it.
The license for MakeMKV should install with the new download.
The only catch is you have to install a new version about once a month.
I have also had good results with XReveal. -
Data2006, if you were using a trial/ free to try version of red fox's anydvd and never bought it.
(and you're probably smarter the me. since i bought it, and they shut the company down)
it's now impossible to get a license from them. since the company is no more. and without a license you're going to keep getting, the program closing before you can even use it.
so if you could get a license circa now. it definitely would *not* be from redfox.
and as cholla has mentioned, the original anydvd. (slysoft version) doesn't have the option to add keydb for 4k uhd access.
were you able to rip discs, you've ripped before with xreveal ??
at least we *can try* to make progress on the all discs getting errors/can't rip them front.
with makemkv you shouldn't have to worry about doing a manual install of libaacs/keydb.
i think it takes care of everything when doing the install.

which version of anydvd do you have ? not all of the early versions could rip blu ray.
you may need xp 2 or xp 3 to rip blu ray. don't think the first version of xp, was capable if doing this.
xp hmm... to be safe maybe you should download the toshiba udf drivers. even if anydvd claims to supply udf drivers.
makemkv/xreaveal, just check to see whatever version you have is compatible with your operating system. and i think you should be ok.
you mention using a 64 bit version of xreveal. is your version of win xp 64 bits ?
if possible try to rip a couple more discs.
maybe the drive is fine. and the discs themselves are the problem. read errors can definitely happen.
also try doing a rip, while not doing anything else on the computer. this step might be helpful in an xp set up.

slysoft AnyDVD will not decrypt blu ray.
slysoft AnyDVD HD will rip older blu rays.
XReveal should rip blu rays that are in the keydb it uses.
If you have the latest keydb & it will not rip a blu ray then that blu ray is probably not in the keydb.
MakeMkv revision history states this:
So it should decvrypt those.MakeMKV v1.9.0 ( 17.11.2014 )
Added support for AACS v50
Updated BD+ engine
Improved handling for discs with mastering errors
Small miscellaneous improvements -
I couldn't tell you all the pros and cons of isobuster (which is paid at $60 for lifetime license), but it'll make ISOs out of blu ray discs, at least the 1080p ones. From there, you can feed the ISO into MakeMKV. I happened to have already purchased for testing transferring content off of older internal HDD recorders like those from JVC/Panasonic/Toshiba which is something that I'm not aware any other disc recovery program can do. Isobuster does have a short free trial I think as well, so you could verify it works for your needs first.
