4K movies appearing a little or too dark

I have only been recently collecting 4k blu rays, one thing I can't bear is HDR or Dolby Vision because the contract between light and dark is so strong it gives me headaches so I have turn all that off. However I am noticing that a large collection of 4ks are appearing a tad dark especially the facial tones when compared to their blu ray counterparts. I must've played around with my tv and player settings to death to try and get the possible output but does anyone know what I can do to remedy this? Or is this just how 4ks look? Does anyone else experience this?

Thank you but I think I have found the solution. Luckily I have a panasonic 4k tv that gives me the option to increase Dark Visibility Enhancer it has done the trick.
