When burning a svcd format, does it matter what speed I burn cd the with? If I burn with 24x, will the quality of the movie decrease?
and an other question, is .avi a better file format then svcd [quality]?

1. do a search on burn speed in this forum.
2. it depends on what compression the avi uses. -
In addition to this:
1 - quality of the movie should not decrease.
2 - some burners will have less errors for writing when the speed increases.
3 - it also depend what you standalone player (when you use one) can read. Some standalone players cannot read CD-R which has been written faster that 4x or 8x speed. Even if yours can read CD-R which has been written with a higher speed, then you probably cannot see the CD-R on another player when the other player cannot read the CD-R's.
You should try what you standalone supports, and decide for yourself if it is worth it: when writing at 24x speed, you will gain a few minutes for burning, but might loose compatibility with other players. 8x speed is mostly supported, and will not take that much longer. The Dutchman
