Hi All,
I would like to capture our family vhs collections to digital. To be honest i thought it will simply work like to get some capture device not cheap but not expensive (what i found said best is Elgato USB S-video capture) and grab a used but working VHS deck push play done happy. I started to read forums and i realized this is also something which is more complex then this. (why should anything be simple) so i would look for your advise. (located in EU-Hungary just regarding PAL NTSC )
We have several vhs videos made by handcams from back at time. these are between not so good and bad quality. So I dont need move theater quality.
I was thinking to buy this elgato https://www.elgato.com/en/video-capture plug play done
Now after reading all around expensive decks TBC more expensive capture cards high spec pc-s i'm confused afraid.
i was thinking on a budget of 100 USD/EUR/GBP whatsoever.
Is this a relative expensive crap or is that enough for a reasonable digitalization on not so reasonable quality original source?
These VHS were not watched since 10+years and i presume in the next 10+ years even would be not watched but it would be good to have as a memory. So i dont need excellent but reasonable quality.
Or would there be anything else to use on this budget level?
Thanks,

The key elements for a capture are the tape conditions and the VCR. Look here for a list of recommended machines

Capture card comes after, and reading the forum you will find many suggestions...

edit: sorry, I read now that you already have the VCR.
