  2. I stopped using things like Avast, Norton, and Mcafee, etc a long time ago. They all come with bloatware that uses resources which slow down the computer. I rely on the inbuilt Windows Defender which I've used for the last ten years. Never had a problem with viruses or malware.

Thread reported. Discussion about warez is not permitted (and your could have compromised your computers with illegal stuff regardless)

  5. I don't use Windows in my main pc and haven't for years, but on the systems I use that do run Windows, I stopped using any of the more well known antivirus software when Vista came out. I found that Windows Firewall + Defender + UAC was more than enough and if I was really paranoid I used Clam as a backup.

Here's the thing, your Windows system (and really any system) is either going to be targeted via the browser or by a rogue app you download and run. If you're dumb enough to download a "cracker" or some similar app for pirating software, then AV is probably not going to help you because you will probably ignore the warnings or the better malware authors know how to disguise the signatures.

For browsers, using something like NoScript or similar extension.

In all honesty, looking back at it, antivirus software was not worth it, many of them ate up precious cpu cycles, yet only gave a false sense of security, systems still got infected, data was still either stolen or held hostage but the companies made millions selling "pro" versions of their silly software.

  6. I have twelve computers. I don't have any anti-virus software on any of them. I have never used anti-virus software because it can ruin the performance of a PC and is so intrusive. I have had to remove anti-virus software from dozens of clients' computers over the years. I had one that took over two minutes and thirty seconds to run Microsoft Word, from the time you double-clicked until you could begin typing.

99% of the threats we face comes from phishing, and no amount of anti-virus software can protect you from your own stupidity when you get tricked into installing rogue software.

If you have Windows, just use what comes with it, but turn off all the background operations and just run a scan every month or so, if it makes you feel better.
