Avidemux commands

I am trying to convert a video to x265.

I am choosing a preset but then i am not able to use advanced options and change gop size- keyframe interval. If i disable the preset and use the advanced options i cant understand which options to use to correspond to the preset i am after.

Can i give commands to Avidemux to change gop with a preset selected? Handbrake can do that but i wont use it because it has inferior conversion quality.

Maybe you can suggest another programme that converts to x265 using presets and taking commands.

How is the result inferior? They both use x264 to create the new video
