Maybe someone can give me some pointers. I have read all the information there is to read on VCDs and SVCDs on this site, and to tell the truth, they were very helpfull. I learned how to capture using VirtualDub, and make VCD compliant mpegs with TMPGenc. I also have made several VCDs and SVCDs with the information on this site, and they turn out decent, however the quality is not that great. Today I downloaded and burned the VCD and SVCDimages samples that I found on this site. I played them, and WOW, the quality is much better than what I can create on my own, WHY??? I followed all directions, and the quality is still not that good. I use an ATI Radeon All In Wonder for my capturing. I use VirtualDub with PicVideo, and for VCDs I capture in 352x240 and 29.97fps. The AVI's look good, and then I follow instructions and convert that to mpeg using TMPGenc. Can anyone else give me some pointers on how to get the quality better on VCDs and SVCDs? My SVCDs are no where near the quality of the sample that I found on this site, the Top Gun sample. I don't understand.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,
Try converting a DVD instead of capturing. Even if you capture from a very good quality source (Your capture card analogly connected to a DVD player.) the quality isn't even that good as when you rip a DVD directly.
Further more try ussing CQ_VBR (For SVCD) or 2-Pass encoding.
