Sorry to disappear like that , but I wrecked my foot and have been dealing with other stuff for a while.
I decided on the Intel version Asus M32 with the i5 CPU, mostly because it has lots of USB 3 ports and can handle multichannel sound; and there is enough room inside for cards & drives, as well as the mobo supposedly taking an i7 if I happen to find one cheap.
So I was reading about ReadyBoost on Win10 here- http://www.techrepublic.com/article/is-readyboost-still-an-effective-tool-in-windows-10/
I have this nifty little Samsung 3.0 Fit, which claims 130 Mb/sec and there's this nice little 3.0 socket on the back of the chassis where it could stay out of the way.
The thing is, the author says in part: I advise choosing the Dedicate This Device To ReadyBoost option, as shown in Figure F. Click OK, and ReadyBoost will configure the device to use the caching system by creating a disk cache file named ReadyBoost.sfcache in the root of the flash drive, as shown in Figure G.
SO... IF I don't see a significant improvement in editing time, I'd rather use the drive for other things; but does doing this permanently alter the root code and make it a teeny tiny doorstop for other purposes? Or can I reformat it back?
And guys, if I hadn't said so thanks for being such a civil bunch; elsewhere the election has sure brought out the worstflaming I've ever seen.

Root means the topmost directory of the drive. If you choose to stop using the drive for ReadyBoost, you can format it and be back to an empty drive.

I used ReadyBoost with Vista and Win 7 and while it helped, the overall performance gain was much slower than switching to an SSD.

Thanks, linyi; that it is a minor help is a great help to know!:]
