  1. Got a used Samsung HDTV which isn't a smart tv. Can I stream my wifi connection using a Roku device or is there something better. Also what is the minimum broadband connection speed for streaming content. Not really well verses in this technology. Thanks.

A Roku is primarily designed for use with streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. Rokus have limited capabilities for playing media files stored locally or delivered via your home network. They only support a small number of container file types and A/V codecs. I can tell you from personal experience that a 150 Mbps WiFi adapter is not always good enough for media file streaming. A 300 Mbps connection worked better, but faster would be better still. I am looking at upgrading to an AC1750 or AC1900 router and some better dual-band wireless adapters.

Individual streaming services list their own requirements for broadband speed.

  3. Let me tell me my experience with Roku device last summer. I had a provlem with sending Vudu 4K UHD to my TV. Netflix 4K UHD works fine, but VUDU either gives me something like error message or just downgrades to 1080p. I tried to contact customer service but they always referred me to check their blog which had all questions and no answers.
In genera: pretty nice remote, good menu layout and no hardware issues.
