Hi,
I have recently purchased a TRV520 to recover some old Video-8 cassettes over 1394 firewire. I just now realized it's an NTSC camera and my tapes are PAL. Will this matter since I am only planning to play the tapes over firewire? Or have I just thrown away several hundred dollars?
Thanks for advice

You won't damage your tapes by testing -- unless there is something mechanically wrong with the camera -- but unfortunately, you have probably thrown away several hundred dollars. PAL/NTSC is one of the things that usually makes a difference.

If I record the output through firewire and it comes through distorted, would there be any way to fix it in post-processing software?

There are some pretty major differences between PAL and NTSC, you won't get any quality footage out of your tapes on a NTSC camera.
