Streaming video to iPad from NAS Drive

I am trying to stream video files (mp4) to my iPad from my NAS Hard Drive. Can anyone help me with whats the best format to use. I have used HANDBRAKE with the iPad option ticked, but the iPad wont play it when streamed from the hard drive (Nas)
However if I put hte same video ONTO the iPad itself it plays, Whats the problem with streaming it....
