The days of being able to buy a player in the store and unlock it at home are long gone. The only safe thing to do now is to buy from a reseller who has added special hardware to the player to make it region free. This will increase your cost a bit over store models, but at least you know the player can be unlocked.

Just remember.....a backup copy that you make of your DVD is Region Free. Unless you are in North America, making a simple backup copy solves the problem.
