Hi.
I was wondering about capturing different types of film reels. I have met someone who has the small film reels. They were from handheld cameras, not larger reels. I don't know the size.
What can a person use to capture film reels? Is it just the Blackmagic Cintel Film Scanner?: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/cintel. Are there cheaper methods? What should a person look for?
Do any projectors have outputs? One or two different kinds were used when I was in elementary school (90's). Some film reels had sound. Some film reels did not and had a tape cassette or vinyl record with it
Thanks.

Film reels come in 3 sizes. 50 feet. 200 feet and 400 feet. Super8 hand-helds usually used 50 feet cassetes.
Other than the above kit, some people use a mirror system where you project the film to one side and capture from the other with a video camera. Some people even simply film the projected white screen.
None of these systems will capture sound. That must be done independently. -
You can get an 8 mm frame-by-frame scanner from MovieStuff for about $3,000 plus shipping and software.

The BMD Cintel machine isn't out yet, but from what I can tell from its press releases, it only works with 35mm and 16mm anyway - not for 8/Super8mm.
