  1. I downloaded and tried to install the huffyuv or Lagarith AVI codecs. The Lagarith.exe file installed itself. I don't know where. The huffyuv is a zip file.

Where should I install the dll file for huffyuv? And do I need to do anything else with the Lagarith.exe file?

Which other programs do I need to use these codecs with? In an older post of mine, after searching I don't think that part was mentioned.

I think VirtualDub will take the codecs from some comments. Anything else? And does any commercial software take these codecs?

    Thanks.

  2. They usually placed in Windows System folder.
If there is no exe (installer) then you can try to install codec by RMB on .inf and selecting Install.
Or you can register dll manually - check "regsvr32" command (open "dos" window by for example left window key + r and typing "cmd")
Codecs should be available trough video software codec selection list.

You may give a chance to ffdshow huffyuv implementation (have few improvements and i prefer ffdshow instead original huffyuv - also ffdshow expose "ffv1" lossless codec - slow but efficient - good for lossless archivization)

There are other much better Lossless Codec than those old Codecs.. Check

    MagicYUV https://www.videohelp.com/tools/MagicYUV
    UT video https://www.videohelp.com/tools/Ut-Video-Codec-Suite

Both are actively being developed.. Accepts most colorspace.. Both are faster than Lagarith, 64bit, Multithreaded, etc..

I was going to mention that I like Pepsi better than Coke, but then I realized that has nothing to do with what the OP asked either.

  5. I have noticed ffdshow is on my system before. I've seen it at various times when dealing with video.

Is this for Format Factory? That is where it was installed. I already had Format Factory too.

I also prefer Pepsi than Coke (one exception for Vanilla Coke).

    To be not completely OT.

Not sure about format factory and not, ffdshow name is not related to format factory (it is related ffmpeg - consider ffdshow as ffmpeg under vfw/direct show interface - Windows OS).

I waiting for YCoCg in MagicYUV - without YCoCg i dont see any advantage for it.
